Household Pet

User guide

Everything Household Pet can do.

A walkthrough of the app from your first sign-in to sharing a pet's record with your vet. Household Pet keeps one tidy health record for every animal in your home, reminds you about the things that matter on schedule, and works whether or not you've got signal. You don't need to read this end to end — jump to whatever you're after.

First 10 minutes

Getting started

Household Pet is a mobile app for iPhone and Android. Install it, create an account, and add your first pet — the whole thing takes a few minutes.

  1. Download the app

Get Household Pet from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). It's free to start, with an optional Plus upgrade for households with more than one pet and the AI and report features.
  2. Create your account

Tap Sign up, enter your email and a password. We email you a 6-digit verification code — type it into the verify screen to confirm your address. (Didn't get it? Check spam; our mail comes from noreply@us.household.pet.)
  3. Add your first pet

The welcome flow walks you straight into “Tell us about your pet”. Give a name, pick a species, and add whatever you have handy — breed, date of birth, sex, whether they're desexed, and microchip number. You can edit any of it later, so don't worry about filling in everything now.
  4. You're in

That's the setup done. You'll land on the Home tab with your pet ready to go. From here you can log a health event, set a reminder, or set up a vaccination schedule.

The dashboard

The Home tab

The Home tab — reminders due across all your pets, then your pets at a glance.

The app has four tabs along the bottom: Home, Pets, Reminders, and More. Home is your daily glance — it greets you, shows what's coming up across all your pets, and surfaces anything that needs attention today. Pull down on the Home tab any time to force a sync with the server.

Profiles

Pets & profiles

A pet's profile — the hub for everything about that animal.

The Pets tab lists every animal you keep records for. Tap a pet to open its profile — the hub for everything about that animal. From a pet's screen you can:

  • See upcoming reminders and the full health log at a glance.
  • Add a health event, jump into the AI symptom assistant (“How is the pet today?”), or generate a vet report.
  • Edit the profile to update details, photo, weight, or microchip.

Household Pet isn't just for dogs and cats — rabbits, ferrets, birds and reptiles are first-class too, and the schedules adapt to the species you pick.

One tidy record

The health log

Weight tracking — every weigh-in plotted, with the trend at a glance.

The health log is the heart of the app — a single, chronological record of everything that happens to your pet. To add an entry, open a pet and tap Add health event, then choose a type:

  • Vaccinationrabies, DHPP, FVRCP and boosters.
  • Medication — what was given and when.
  • Vet visit — notes from an appointment.
  • Flea / worm treatment — parasite prevention.
  • Grooming — clips, nails, baths.
  • Note — anything else worth remembering.

Each entry takes an optional name, the vet or clinic, a date, and free-form notes. Save it and it lands at the top of the log. Everything you record here flows into reminders, vet reports, and (if you share the pet) the people you've given access to.

Weigh-ins get special treatment: log them over time and Household Pet charts the trend so you can spot gradual gain or loss at a glance.

Day-to-day care

Activity tracking

The health log is for the medical record; activity tracking is for everyday life. Open a pet and tap the Activity tile to get a shared feed of what's happened lately — grouped by day, with Today and Yesterday right at the top — so the whole household can see at a glance whether the dog's been walked or the cat's been fed.

Tap Add and pick what happened:

  • Walk, Play, Feeding, Grooming, Potty or Rest — the common ones, one tap each.
  • Other — anything else, with your own label.

Each entry takes the time it happened and an optional note, plus quick toggles for the things you want to keep an eye on — poop, pee, water and ate — handy when you're watching tummy troubles or a fussy eater. Every activity shows who logged it, and because it syncs across everyone sharing the pet, two people never double-feed or miss a walk. Tap any entry to edit it.

Activity tracking is part of the free tier — no Plus subscription needed.

Never miss a booster

Reminders

The Reminders tab — Overdue, Upcoming and Done, tuned to your pet's schedule.

The Reminders tab is where Household Pet earns its keep. Reminders cover the things that actually recur — rabies and core-vaccine boosters, plus flea, tick and heartworm prevention at the cadence your vet recommends.

Set one up from the Reminders tab (tap to add a new reminder) or straight from a pet's profile with Set up vaccination schedule. When a reminder is due, the app sends a push notification to the right person at the right time. You'll find everything coming up under the Reminders tab, and the next few items also appear on Home and on each pet's profile.

When something's off

AI symptom assistant

A symptom result — clear guidance in one of three bands, with suggested next steps.

When your pet seems unwell, open their profile and tap “How is the pet today?”. Describe the symptom in plain words — for example “swollen eye” or “eating grass” — and tap See guidance. The assistant gives clear, conservative advice in one of three bands: monitor at home, call your vet today, or treat it as an emergency and go now.

Important: the symptom assistant is deliberately cautious and is not a substitute for examination by a registered veterinarian. If it points you toward a vet, trust it. For a genuine emergency, contact your vet or a 24-hour clinic straight away — the result screen has a link to find your nearest one.

Walk in prepared

Vet reports

Choose what to include, then Generate PDF.

Heading to an appointment? From a pet's profile tap Vet report and Household Pet builds a clean PDF summary of that animal's history — vaccinations, medications, weight trend, microchip, and recent log entries — ready to show or send to your vet. You choose what goes in: flick on the sections you want, pick a weight chart or just the latest figure, then tap Generate PDF. It works from the records already on your phone, so you can generate it even with no signal.

The finished report — ready to save, show or share with your vet.

The whole household

Household & vet sharing

Pets are rarely one person's job. From a pet's access screen you can invite other people to share the record:

  • Co-owners — invite a partner or family member by email. They get full access to add and edit records, and their changes sync to everyone. Invites are sent to their email and stay valid for 7 days; if they don't have the app yet, the invite is waiting when they sign up.
  • Guests (read-only) — give your vet, groomer, sitter or boarder view-only access for an appointment or a stay, then revoke it whenever you like.

A pet can have up to 10 people on it. You can leave a pet that someone shared with you, and owners can revoke an invite or remove a member at any time. To protect the record, the app won't let you remove the last remaining owner.

Works anywhere

Offline & syncing

Household Pet is offline-first. Everything you do is saved to your device immediately — you never wait on the network — and queued to sync the moment you're back online. That's why the app is dependable at the vet, in a basement clinic, or out of range.

The upgrade

Household Pet Plus

The free tier covers one pet and the core record. Household Pet Plus unlocks unlimited pets (within the household cap), the AI symptom assistant, PDF vet reports, and household sharing. You can subscribe monthly or yearly — the yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial — and cancel anytime.

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple or Google, not by us, so you cancel from your device's subscription settings. Switching devices? Use Restore purchases on the paywall to bring your subscription across. Either way, your pet data stays exactly where it is — only the paid features change.

Your data, your call

Privacy & your data

The More tab — your subscription, data controls, and account.

Your records are hosted in the United States. We don't sell your data, run ads, or track you off the app. You stay in control from More → Privacy & data:

  • Download my data emails you a link to a full export of everything we hold, usually within 24 hours.
  • Delete my account starts a grace period during which you can change your mind by signing back in; after it ends, your data is permanently removed.

The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
